About the event

THE DANCE AEROBICS CLASS BY WATWERO DANCE INITIATIVE LIMITED.

The urban town of Gulu is growing rapidly. Many people are moving to the city to find work. The cost of living is hiking. This is forcing people to channel most of their energies in working to earn a living. These however come at the expense of people paying fewer attention to their health needs, which makes it associated with reduced holistic physical exercise done by people, reduced farming activities and more reliance on buying unhealthy fried street food. In developed countries, this transition in development is associated with increased non-communicable disease such as obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure, increased mental health problems like depression, anxiety and loneliness, among others. This in a long run has proven to be a silence killer within these developed communities. From interviewing a few people around Gulu city, they claim they walk daily, climb stairs in their offices and that it is physical exercise. Little do they know that their daily walking, climbing stairs and common workouts like treadmills and cycling provide fitness in only the sagittal dimension? The body needs workout from all planes, including lateral and rotational, which turns on and conditions all muscles, meaning no muscle is left behind. This is successfully achieved by a dance rooted aerobic concept. The department of health and human services physical activity guidelines state that for a health benefit, adults should do at least 150 minutes to 300 minutes per week of moderate-intensity exercise, or 75 minutes to 150 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity.

Watwero dance initiative limited is a cultural and creative art company. Among other creative activities, watwero embraces dance and sport as a mode of prevention and treatment of health, body and nutritional challenges. The company has both qualified and certified dance, sport and physiotherapists.

Watwero therefore proposed for their Aerobic class.

AN AEROBIC CLASS.

A normal aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness (flexibility, muscular strength, and cardio-vascular fitness). It is usually performed to music and may be practiced in a group setting led by an instructor (fitness professional), although it can be done solo and without musical accompaniment. With the goal of preventing illness and promoting physical fitness, practitioners perform various routines comprising a number of different dance-like exercises. Formal aerobics classes are divided into different levels of intensity and complexity and will have five components: warm-up (5–10 minutes), cardiovascular conditioning (25–30 minutes), muscular strength and conditioning (10–15 minutes), cool-down (5–8 minutes) and stretching and flexibility (5–8 minutes). Aerobics classes may allow participants to select their level of participation according to their fitness level. Many gyms offer different types of aerobic classes. Each class is designed for a certain level of experience and taught by a certified instructor with a specialty area related to their particular class.
